Opportunities in Visual Arts Careers
More details
Imagine that you have been given an assignment by an art teacher. It asks you to find some free time and to make a list of all of the art you can see in an hour. You go to an art museum and start to make your list. You move through the museum quickly and after an hour have noted some two hundred to three hundred pieces of art—mostly drawings, paintings, and sculpture. Now imagine that you are given another assignment by the same teacher. The basic task is the same, but this time you are asked to find art at a local shopping mall. How much art will you see there?
You notice that several large prints of impressionist paintings have been used to decorate Macy’s department store. The bookstore in the mall has some calendars for sale, and each month these calendars feature the work of different artists. And a framing shop sells reproductions of many recognizable art works. But that is about all you discover. After an hour of looking, you cannot find any other works of art. Or can you?
